It is always a moment of joy and celebration when a new animal is born in a zoo. Recently, Marwell Zoo welcomed a new addition to their family – a Przewalski’s horse, which is classified as critically endangered on the Red List of threatened species.
The zoo staff had been eagerly anticipating the arrival of the foal and provided special care and attention to the mother during her pregnancy. The healthy foal was born at night, and the zoo is yet to determine its sex.
Marwell Zoo is known for its breeding program of Przewalski’s horses, and this successful birth is a great achievement for the conservation of the species. These horses are native to Central Asia and are found in the Gobi Desert in Mongolia. The females carry their foals for 11 to 12 months before giving birth.
Przewalski’s horses are known for their small size, big head, thick neck, and short legs, which make them look cute and lovely.
