Tasmanian Devils Have Made a Comeback in the Wild on the Australian Mainland After Being Absent for 3,000 Years

Tasmanian devils were once native to mainland Australia, but disappeared 3,000 years ago due to increased predation. These endangered creatures now reside on Tasmania Island.

In 2020, the conservation group Aussie Ark, along with actor Chris Hemsworth and his wife, launched a project to reintroduce Tasmanian devils to their original habitat. The group invested significant time, effort, and resources in the initiative, with hopes of a successful breeding population.

The project has since been completed, and the Tasmanian devils have been released into the wild. Seven healthy babies have been born in the forests of Australia, and are being carefully monitored by rangers.

By the end of this year, the number of Tasmanian devils is expected to reach 20, with hopes of 40 newborns in the next two years. Despite their cute appearance, these unique creatures have a strong bite and are of the size of a small dog. The success of this project is a promising step in preserving this endangered species.
