Some people are perplexed by the impact that objects like plastic bags and forks. They can be both extremely beneficial and dangerous, have on the environment.
An image of a young turtle that passed away while in the care of Gumbo Limbo Nature Center was recently posted online.
The turtle that has made it out into the ocean but is then washed back to shore, according to the wildlife center in Boca Raton.Whitney Crowder, the wildlife center’s coordinator for sea turtle rehabilitation, told the Sun Sentinel, “We have had 121 in our facilities.” I’m not even sure how many have gone by. Many have passed away.
The Gumbo Limbo Nature Center reports that “100% of our washbacks who didn’t make it had plastic in their intestinal tracts”. It may be the most distressing aspect of the dozens of deaths.
The center displayed one of the young turtles, along with 104 pieces of plastic discovered inside it.
This serves as a sad reminder that we must all contribute to keeping our oceans free of plastic.
Even if it’s hard to imagine, all 104 pieces came from a digestive system that was smaller than the palm of your hand and belonged to a turtle.
According to the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, the turtles consume the plastic, which becomes trapped and sends them into septic shock.
