Newt, a one-year-old dog, was born without an upper jaw after being bitten by his mother when he was a youngster, while Picasso, a five-year-old dog, was born with a crooked nose. It is impossible to break the bond of love between two dogs with severe facial defects.
The founding director Liesl Wilhardt has detailed the close bond between Picasso and Newt.
Both dogs have severe facial defects, but they are delighted to live on a 55-acre estate in Oregon, USA. After the tragic death of Picasso’s sibling in 2017, Liesl took him along. When Newt followed in 2021, the two quickly grew close.
Newt was left with no upper jaw when his mother bit him. Picasso, who is now five, was born with a crooked nose.
Despite the daily struggles they have as a result of their deformities and Newt’s health issues. The pair now lead a very happy life.
In a series of films that depict their daily activities—including feeding, playing, walking, and gathering berries—we get to see their bond develop.
Picasso’s survival as a newborn was amazing, Liesl said, “since he would not have been able to even nurse from his mother.”
Newt has faced a number of other difficulties, the majority of which are unconnected to the absence of his upper jaw.
Both Picasso and Newt are extroverted and want attention in public. They both like interacting with people. Most people quickly take a second glance and then turn to look at the dogs, trying to understand what they’re seeing.
