Neville walked the streets of California for weeks in the blistering summer heat before finding a place to rest safely. The background of the 2-year-old shepherd mix was unclear, and she was completely alone. Fortunately, a kind stranger found the stray and fed and watered her before taking her to the closest shelter.
The message read, “She’s a real love bug; everyone is in love.” He has a thyroid condition. This unfortunate lady needs our assistance. Given that Neville weighed 130 pounds—more than two to three times the appropriate weight for a dog of her size—she had undoubtedly been mistreated.
She was only at our shelter for a short period of time before she was adopted. However, we were aware that she needed assistance. She moved into her new home in late July ,but she still needs a plan for her health and weight loss.
“We took her to the vet the day after we got her home and we ran tests,” Neville’s mother, Niki, said. Despite having a low thyroid, she has not yet been given a hypothyroidism diagnosis.
Niki is now looking for a pool so that Neville can exercise without endangering her joints. Thankfully, her most recent visit revealed good news. She weighed 130 pounds in the shelter, but today she weighed only 112 pounds.
Niki proclaimed, “She has given me a newfound sense of purpose.” She recently provided me with new inspiration to continue working with animals, something I had been finding difficult.
