You never really know what to expect when spending the day outside. Only Emmett Blous, who was river rafting on the Shubenacadie River in Nova Scotia with friends, could completely get this.
Emmett observed a group of bald eagles and realized that one of them was in difficulty.
The bald eagles took flight as a result of a tidal bore, but one of them was struck by a wave and was unable to flee. She was really having trouble, but thankfully, Emmett and his team were there to help. The sight of a bald eagle straining and flapping in the water must have been impressive.
She had a broken leg, which they discovered after they drew up next to her and placed her in a boat. Because they didn’t want to risk causing the bird any more pain, they transferred her to Hope for Wildlife Rescue.
As Emmett held her in the boat, her heart was pounding, but as soon as she realized he wouldn’t injure her, she started to calm down.
Prior to returning the boat to the pier, they had to wait for an hour. One of her legs had ligament damage. The bird’s recovery allowed the rescue crew to release her once she was able to fly once more. Even Emmett was invited to the meeting to see the proceedings.
