The Smallest Horse Is Dwarf, but He Is Okay With Being a Little Unique

In the Texas refuge Habitat for Horses, Munchie stands out among the other horses. There, a horse is usually 5 to 6 feet tall. In contrast, Munchie is only 21 inches (less than 2 feet) from the ground.

However, Munchie’s confidence hasn’t been impacted by his size.

According to Amber Barnes, adoption and media consultant for Habitat for Horses, “It’s like he doesn’t see how large they [the other horses] are or care about how big they are.” He just seems to be saying, “So what you’re big? Whatever.’”

Munchie lived on a property in San Antonio in a state of neglect before moving in with Habitat for Horses 11 years ago.

According to Barnes, he was around two months old when we saved him. He brought a family of small horses as well as several larger horses. There was a huge cruelty seizure case in San Antonio. There were so many dead horses on the farm when we got there. It’s a tragic situation.

The bulk of the animals, including Munchie and his mother Melanie the miniature horse, was seized by the police and are currently housed at Habitat for Horses.

Because Barnes said he was so small, he was driven from the rescue place in the front seat of a truck on someone’s lap. He was quite little in the way of a little dog on your lap.

Because of this, there are structural differences. And this frequently results in health issues,” Barnes added. It may even be fatal.

Fortunately, Munchie is in rather good health, despite having an underbite and a curled “roach” back. Barnes remarked, “It’s actually very sweet when he stares at you and licks his lips.
