“From Circus Captivity to Sanctuary Freedom: Formerly Abused Bear Finds Heavenly Refuge”

Cholita, the bear in the story, had a very difficult and tragic life. She was taken away from her parents as a cub and forced to live in a circus in Peru. The circus staff treated the animals poorly, subjecting them to strict conditions and abuse.

A former circus bear was eventually rescued and taken to a sanctuary, after 20 years of abuse: now she is in heaven

Cholita spent nearly 20 years confined to a small cage, measuring only 5 feet by 5 feet. During her time in captivity, her teeth were shattered, and her fingers were cut off, making her weak and helpless. She also suffered from alopecia, causing her to lose all her fur and leaving her completely bald.

After a decade of enduring this terrible life, the Peruvian government intervened and rescued Cholita. They temporarily placed her in a zoo while they searched for a permanent and safe home for her. However, the zoo staff believed that no one would want to adopt Cholita due to her appearance.

After spending another 10 years in the zoo, Cholita was finally rescued by Animal Defenders International (ADI). They specifically came to save the old and weak bear and transported her to their ADI Freedom Center. There, Cholita could finally enjoy the fruits she loved.

It’s important to acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of organizations like Animal Defenders International who work tirelessly to rescue and rehabilitate animals that have been subjected to such cruelty. Cholita’s story is a reminder of the resilience and capacity for healing that animals possess, given the chance to live in a safe and nurturing environment.
