A recent joyous occasion occurred at a wildlife sanctuary in Madrid, where a panda gave birth to twin cubs. The first cub was born at 8:30 am after a four-hour period of contractions. Although experts were prepared to assist, the experienced mother successfully handled the delivery on her own.
After the tiny, pink cub emitted its first cries, the mother gently picked it up and placed it on her stomach. The second cub arrived in the afternoon. During the first four months of their lives, the newborns will rely entirely on their mother until they can walk independently.
The genders of the cubs have yet to be determined, as DNA analysis results are awaited. Local veterinarians are receiving assistance from two specialists from the Chinese panda breeding center in Chengdu in caring for these rare creatures. The sanctuary has created optimal conditions for the pandas, which is particularly significant considering the challenges they face in increasing their population, both in captivity and in the wild.
Giant pandas, also known as bamboo bears, reach sexual maturity between the ages of 4 and 8. Pregnancy lasts between 90 and 160 days and typically results in one or two cubs weighing 90-130 grams.
