The adoption of a shelter dog is always a cause for celebration, and sometimes the timing is just right for these dogs to find their forever homes.
This was the case for Lizzy, a pregnant terrier who was rescued just in time by Rebecca Lynch, executive director of Poodle and Pooch Rescue of Florida. Lizzy was in a high-kill shelter in Georgia and had a fractured limb, making her situation precarious.
Rebecca and her husband decided to visit a shelter while on vacation in Georgia to adopt a dog, specifically the neediest puppy. Lizzy was that dog, and Rebecca made a comfortable area in her car for the journey back to Florida. During the trip, Lizzy gave birth to a healthy litter of puppies. After the dramatic journey, Lizzy and all of her puppies found their forever homes.
Despite her tragic background, Lizzy has adjusted well to her new home and has become a joyful and devoted dog. Rebecca describes her as adorable and with a kind soul. The timing of Lizzy’s adoption could not have been more perfect, and it’s a journey that Rebecca will never forget.
