Several years ago, the story of an emotional elephant went viral on the internet, and to this day it still touches the hearts of thousands of people. Animal lovers worldwide are relieved that Raju, the elephant, has been released from captivity after being held for 50 years.
Raju was only a calf when he was taken from the wild and used as an entertainer animal for tourists. He endured abuse and mistreatment from 27 different owners, who used him as a means to make money. If he was unable to do what his owners demanded, he was punished and brutally beaten.
Physically and mentally weakened, Raju was unable to defend himself and spent 50 years in captivity. Fortunately, the Wildlife SOS organization discovered Raju’s story and rescued him from his terrible living conditions. Volunteers released him at night to avoid any interference from the owners.
When his chains were removed, Raju broke down in tears, causing the volunteers to cry as well. After a couple of months of recovery, he was given a new life at a sanctuary where he is now able to enjoy life fully. After six years of freedom, Raju continues to live happily and receive the love and care he was deprived of for 50 years.
