The wild have an unusual and surprising way of life. Danger lurks around every corner in places like Kenya’s Masai Mara. Cubs most frequently get into problems because they are so inexperienced and defenseless.
Only a few feet away from its mother, the lioness’s youngster stumbled and tumbled over the cliff.
As soon as it realized it was at the base of the sheer cliff, the lion cub began to cry out for assistance. Fortunately, its mother and three other lions, who were nearby, heard it. The lioness’ primary thought at that time was of the cub. She took a life-threatening risk by starting to fall down the sheer cliff.
As she began to descend, she did it gently and with extreme caution since she knew that every misstep or excess movement would be crucial and decisive for the two of them. Fortunately, Jean-Francois Largo, a wildlife photographer, was able to record those instances.
Finally, she reached the lion cub, took him by the jaw, and slowly started to walk away. Both the mother and the youngster emerge from the dramatic circumstances on the stable ground above the cliff in good health.
When everything is finished, it’s time to comfort the infant and allow him to relax. How valuable a lesson that was for them!
