Above all else, Sammy loved her father. His 12-week-old Doberman mix was just getting started with him when he died.
Fortunately, two kind EMTs from Fort Worth, Texas, intervened to help, which made everyone’s lives better. Tegan Sliva, the EMT who responded to the call, told The Dodo that she scooped up the puppy because she was curled up next to the patient. In my arms, the puppy was sobbing.
Sammy was devastated and terrified, and she didn’t want to leave the only family she had ever known. Sammy had nowhere else to turn but a shelter, and Sliva and Kirk, their EMT partner, decided they couldn’t let that be her fate. So they took Sammy in.
Sliva added, “We carried her to the ambulance while we were packing away our equipment. We cleaned her up with wet wipes and gave her water because she was covered in dust.”
Kirk’s girlfriend was keeping an eye on Sammy as he finished his duty. However, before the evening was out, Sammy had located her new family. That day, Sammy suffered a terrible loss, but things quickly got better. According to Sliva, she now belongs to Kirk and has a big sister named Kaley. She adores running with her and is pretty vivacious. She is content with life. Samantha’s life will always be filled with memories of her father, but for now, she has a second chance to create new ones.
