The carers had to act as the child’s surrogate parents while they looked for an adoptive mother to raise Djibril and provide the care that humans were unable to provide. While all this was going on, he found refuge in a plush monkey. Djibril, who was 16 months old at the time, discovered a new family in the BIOPARK Valencia animal park.

The welfare of the animals is sought in this sanctuary by providing a suitable natural habitat to aid in their comfort and healing. There, the child was placed with an adoptive mother named Eva.

Little Djibril’s beginnings were far from simple when he initially arrived at BIOPARK Valencia in July 2019. Malin, a chimp, was assigned to him, but she showed little interest in caring for the child. Thankfully, Eva, another ape in the troop, accepted the kid and cared for him.

Eva had no prior experience as a mother, but her instincts were awakened when she met Djibril, and they surmounted every obstacle together. A year after arriving at the park, the chimp now has a family.

Djibril is critical to the survival of an endangered subspecies. According to World Wildlife Fund records, he is a member of the so-called western chimp, a species that is endangered in its home habitat (WWF).
