On August 1, while fixing a dirt bike on the side of the road, off-duty deputies Lucas and Nicole Shoffner from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office were hit by a car driven by Raymond Surber, a deputy from the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office. The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office has requested prayers for the injured deputies via Facebook.
Former Loudon County policeman Matt Fagiana revealed that Lucas bravely saved Nicole by pushing her aside, despite sustaining serious injuries himself. Fagiana described Lucas as “kind, loyal, funny, and resilient,” adding, “You got this, Lucas, and we are behind you and Nicole every step of the way.”
Lucas suffered severe brain injuries and is in a medically induced coma at the UT Medical Center’s Transplant Intensive Care Unit. His former employer, the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office, expressed their support, stating, “Lucas, everyone at LCSO is pulling for you!”
Nicole shared on Instagram that Lucas is moving out of critical care after 40 days, marking a positive development. “We begin our chapter of healing today,” she declared. This narrative highlights the bravery and sacrifices made by law enforcement officers.
