Once, Sarah Jessica Parker let her gray hair grow out, but her fans were highly critical. The response was considerably better when Parker colored her hair, yet she firmly believed that people should be free to do what makes them comfortable.
While filming the “Sex and the City” revival, “And Just Like That,” in July 2021, Sarah Jessica Parker, then 56, took a break and went to Anton’s restaurant in New York City with Andy Cohen. At the time, the actress wore a chain necklace and a sleeveless blue top, with her hair back in a braid, showcasing its natural gray color. Despite enjoying her natural look, many criticized her rather than offering support.

One Daily Mail reader commented that it wasn’t a “good look on her,” suggesting that only a few could pull off gray hair without appearing “old.” Another Instagram user remarked that Parker looked 70 and hadn’t “aged well.” A Daily Mail reader, surprised to learn she was 56, thought she looked 86 and wondered if she was ill. Despite the harsh criticism, Parker continued with her natural hair for a while.
Recently, however, Parker was seen looking more like her former self, with colored hair.
On September 13, 2023, Sarah Jessica Parker attended the ATG Summer Party at Kensington Palace in London. The “Sex and The City” actress looked stunning in a flowing green gown with cape-style chiffon sleeves and a thigh-high split. Her hair, styled loosely, complemented her metallic heels. She was escorted by her longtime spouse, actor Matthew Broderick.
Despite her glamorous appearance, some social media users focused on her hair. One commenter noted, “After she gets rid of grandma’s grey hair, she looks much better,” while another speculated that she had “freshened up a little” and “may have gotten rid of the grey hair along the hairline.” Others remarked that her hair looked “much improved,” though one added that she still looked “so very old.”
In a June 2023 interview with “The Howard Stern Show,” Parker discussed the public’s focus on aging and Hollywood’s cosmetic surgery trend. She claimed she didn’t feel “unpresentable” or dislike her appearance but understood why some women felt pressured to look a certain way, leading them to opt for cosmetic surgery. She also noted the numerous articles on aging gracefully that surfaced after the new season of “And Just Like That…” aired in 2021.
Despite sitting next to Andy Cohen, whose hair is entirely gray, tabloids singled out Parker’s gray hair. Aware of the scrutiny women face for their appearance, Parker emphasized that women should follow their own desires, without taking a specific stance on the issue.
