A remarkable event took place at Broward College, marking a significant milestone in its 61-year history. Twelve-year-old Sousen Ahmed accomplished an extraordinary feat by passing her final exams and becoming the youngest graduate ever at the institution.
During the graduation ceremony, the college’s rector expressed immense pride and gratitude, acknowledging Sousen’s remarkable achievement and reaffirming Broward College’s commitment to supporting the dreams of all its students, irrespective of age.
Despite her academic prowess, Sousen remains a typical child who enjoys activities such as playing Minecraft, watching Disney movies, and wearing caps and sweatshirts. However, what sets her apart is her degree in biology and an unwavering determination to excel in her chosen field.
Undeterred by her exceptional accomplishments, Sousen now has her sights set on pursuing further studies in microbiology at the esteemed University of Florida.
Hailing from Rhode Island, Sousen demonstrated remarkable intellectual abilities from an early age. She was already speaking in full sentences by 15 months and reading and writing fluently by the age of two, astounding her parents, Drs. Vesam and Gina Ahmed.
While traditional schools were initially hesitant to accept a child prodigy, Sousen persevered through remote learning, defying expectations and completing high school by the age of nine.
Sousen firmly states, “Really, there is nothing I regret. I do a lot of things my peers do. Going to college was something extra, but it didn’t replace my childhood.”
Sousen’s accomplishments shed light on the significance of fostering a supportive educational environment that nurtures the unique talents and aspirations of students, regardless of their age.
