Within just four months of working at Farmington Elementary School in Germantown, Tennessee, Robert had earned the respect and admiration of his coworkers, as well as the affection of the spirited students he interacted with daily. Despite his dedication and willingness to help, Robert faced the challenge of commuting to work without a personal vehicle.
Observing his daily struggles, his compassionate colleagues took it upon themselves to make a difference. They rallied together and raised funds to purchase a vehicle for Robert.
For someone who had to rely on three buses and endure a lengthy walk before and after work, the journey was arduous. This was particularly challenging considering the physical labor involved in his job of maintaining the cleanliness of the entire school. Nevertheless, Robert persisted, faithfully showing up for work five days a week.
After a long day’s work, he would embark on the grueling return trip—another three buses and a three-kilometer walk, amounting to a four-hour commute.
Occasionally, Robert’s coworkers would lend a helping hand by offering him a lift to the bus stop, but it was clear that a significant change was needed.
Robert had long harbored a dream of purchasing a van to facilitate his daily commute and establish his own landscaping business. Recognizing his dedication and resilience, his colleagues were determined to turn this dream into a reality. In just 21 hours, they managed to raise an astounding $7,000 for the van.
