In a historic event for South Korea, a remarkable dog named Baekgu has been awarded a lifeguard accolade, becoming the country’s first honorary rescue dog.
Baekgu’s heroic actions played a vital role in preventing hypothermia and potentially saving the life of his 90-year-old owner.
On August 25, the woman and the dog went missing, triggering concern among her family members. Surveillance cameras near her residence captured their disappearance.
Given the owner’s dementia, her sudden absence caused great distress among her loved ones, prompting an immediate search operation that lasted approximately 40 hours.
Ultimately, the woman was discovered in a rice field, two kilometers away from her home. Due to heavy rainfall, her clothes became soaked and weighed her down, rendering her unable to get up.
Baekgu, loyal and devoted, stayed by her side throughout the ordeal, protecting her from the cold and preventing hypothermia.
Following the rescue, the woman was promptly hospitalized, and Baekgu was honored with an award for his unwavering loyalty and courage.
The owner’s daughter revealed that Baekgu had joined their family three years ago when they adopted him as a puppy after he was attacked by a larger dog.
“Baekgu developed a special bond with my mother, almost as if he were expressing his gratitude towards us. I was extremely worried when my mother went missing for hours in the rainy weather. We are incredibly grateful to Baekgu. He is an integral part of our family,” she expressed.
This heartwarming story highlights the exceptional bond between humans and their canine companions, emphasizing the profound impact that dogs like Baekgu can have on the lives of their owners.
