At the age of 94, Renaud has been a consistent advocate for the legalization of euthanasia, fighting for the right to assisted dying with dignity.
In August 2022, Renaud penned a passionate forum in Le Journal du Dimanche, urging for the legalization of euthanasia. This effort bore fruit when she later met with President Emmanuel Macron and successfully “convinced” him of the cause, receiving assurances that progress would be made.
During an interview with RTL, Renaud shared this encouraging news, discussing her vision of her final moments. She imagines herself lying in bed, accompanied by her loyal companion, Pirate. Having witnessed loved ones endure immense suffering, Renaud is determined not to subject her own family to such trauma. She passionately expressed her aversion to witnessing the pain of others and affirmed her ongoing fight for change.
Renaud’s commitment to her cause remains unyielding. She declares that if necessary, she is willing to defy the law, finding a way to overcome legal restrictions should her suffering become unbearable. Her resolute stance is clear: “Without the law, I will die while resisting.”
In September of a previous year, France’s National Consultative Ethics Committee (CCNE) accepted the possibility of “active” assistance in dying, albeit with stringent regulations.
