Families often quarrel over a loved one’s possessions, and sometimes these disputes become so intense that the intended beneficiaries can’t even agree. A woman shared a story about the legacy her mother left behind after she passed away.
In the beginning, the woman explained that she had been the one to care for her ailing mother. “Mum was always my best friend, so of course I was going to be there for her through it all,” she wrote.
However, her greedy brother and aunts only visited when they needed something, usually money to pay their bills. While she was always there for her mother, they were absent except when it suited them.
“As my mom’s condition worsened, one of my aunts reached out to her ‘contacts’ for help in finding a new place to live—since my mother owned a real estate company. They were so conniving,” the woman wrote.
Eventually, her mother passed away.
The woman then recalled the day of her mother’s will reading. It felt like a scene from a Hallmark movie as she sat with her brother, her aunts, and her late mother’s attorney.
“I sipped weak tea from one of the chipped teacups as the lawyer dropped the bombshell. My mother had left the $5 million she’d saved to my brother and aunts. I sat there, trying to comprehend what was happening, struggling to swallow my tea as I realized I had received nothing. Not a single thing. Absolutely nothing.”
She began to cry, her mascara smudging onto her skirt. Her brother and aunts, meanwhile, could hardly hide their smiles.
