Walt Disney Studios has announced that the sequel to Freaky Friday will hit theaters in 2025.
Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are reuniting for the much-anticipated film.
A recent photo from the set of Freaky Friday 2 shows Lohan, 37, and Curtis, 65, holding hands and smiling, more than 20 years after the original comedy’s 2003 release. They swapped positions and posed on the steps of each other’s trailers.
Disney’s announcement on June 24 confirmed that the sequel is now in production and slated for a 2025 theatrical release.
Lohan expressed her excitement about the project to PEOPLE in March, saying, “I’m excited to work with Jamie again and see how much further we can take it.”
She added, “We talk about it virtually every other day, so I think this will be a lot of fun.”
The costars recently reunited for an interview with The New York Times to celebrate Freaky Friday’s 20th anniversary. They discussed their “easy” friendship.
Curtis recalled, “After meeting in an office and going through the read-through, it was really game on. I had to let go of all control mechanisms and just let it fly. Lindsay was equally supple as I was. She has an extremely remarkable acting facility if you watch The Parent Trap. It was a significant task. It was a large-scale event. Our connection was also quite simple.”
