During Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee, Princess Lilibet had only one encounter with her grandfather, King Charles, but he made sure to give her a birthday present. According to royal expert Tom Quinn, Princess Lilibet received a special gift from King Charles on her third birthday today.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle hosted a sizable birthday celebration at their Montecito, California, residence over the weekend. They invited close friends to the party, but many from the Royal Family were noticeably absent due to ongoing conflicts within the family.
Despite not being invited, King Charles commemorated the occasion. He wrote his granddaughter a touching note and sent her a gift. Quinn revealed, “King Charles sent a gift and a message because he didn’t want to ignore Lilibet’s birthday entirely.” He explained that the king is saving a unique gift for when the family strife ends. “He hopes to give Lilibet something similar to what he gave Prince George—a gorgeous handmade wooden swing with George’s name etched on it—but not this year,” Quinn said. “Meghan has set clear boundaries on what can be accepted as a gift, so the king has been limited in his options.”
Lilibet’s party was attended by celebrities, including Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry. Instead of spending too much on gifts, Harry and Meghan opted for a grand pre-birthday celebration, inviting many well-known people to their California home. Perry and Bloom attended the celebration with their daughter Daisy, who is only a few months older than Lilibet.
Guests included Ellen DeGeneres, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Oprah Winfrey, who are neighbors of the couple. Notably, members of the Royal Family did not receive invitations. “Shockingly, no members of the Royal Family received invitations to Lilibet’s party,” Quinn remarked.
