A 31-year-old Danish woman is challenging social norms on beauty by proudly keeping her mustache and unibrow. Meet Eldina Jaganjac, a Copenhagen-born teacher who has rejected society’s beauty standards, particularly those imposed on women.
In March 2020, Eldina decided to embrace her natural appearance, letting her facial hair grow. She found a sense of liberation in accepting herself as she is, defying the conventional standards that push women to be sleek and hairless. Naturally, this choice was met with mixed reactions. Some men boldly commented that she appeared to have a “third head” staring at them. However, Eldina sees her facial hair as a useful filter, helping her avoid interactions with people she would rather not engage with.
Eldina believes that her mustache and unibrow deter “conservative” suitors, attracting men who value her personality over appearances. She explained, “I used to think that women’s fashion choices were limited to a few selections. I was obsessed with getting my eyebrows just right before I accepted my unibrow. If a man neglects to shave his beard, nobody seems to care. It’s simply accepted as normal.”
She continued, “Like many other women, I used to be so strict with myself. I wouldn’t leave the house if my eyebrows weren’t well-groomed, and I wouldn’t go to the gym if my legs weren’t flawlessly waxed.”
But things have since changed. Now, she focuses more on her responsibilities and goals than on her appearance. “I’m not going to lose sleep over it,” she stated matter-of-factly, “and even if I did, I just wouldn’t care.”
