Born on March 1, 1954, in Duncan, Oklahoma, Ronald Howard became a Hollywood icon. He made his film debut at eighteen months old in Frontier Woman and appeared on stage in The Seven Year Itch at age two.
Soon after, the redheaded, freckle-faced Howard gained celebrity status as Opie on The Andy Griffith Show (1960–1968). With the full support of his parents, who were also in the entertainment industry, he thrived in his role. Reflecting on a conversation with his parents, Howard recalled them saying, “You would have to continue doing this show, but you are not required to do other parts on other shows if you so choose.” He understood and enjoyed acting, recognizing his talent early on.
